When you start Bat Filer, you see the Bat Filer Window. This window shows you:
• The FILE LIST. For each file is shown:
◊ Lock status (•=locked)
◊ File name
◊ Volume name
◊ File Type
◊ File Creator
◊ Data fork length
◊ Resource fork length
• Information about the file list:
◊ Number of files
◊ Space on disk they occupy
◊ List ordering (if any)
◊ Free Memory remaining in your Mac
• File list buttons, including
◊ Add Files
◊ Clear All Files
◊ Clear Selected Files
• File operations buttons, including:
◊ Lock Files
◊ Unlock Files
◊ Rename Files
◊ Delete Files
◊ Launch
Some Bat Filer commands apply to files in the file list which are SELECTED. Selected files appear in reverse video. To select a file, click on its information line. Clicking another file selects that file while DE-selecting any files previously selected. Holding down the [Shift] key while clicking a file will select all files between that file and any other currently selected. Holding down the [Command] key while clicking allows you to reverse the selected/deselected status of files. See your Macintosh User's Guide for more information on selecting items in lists.
If there are more files in the list than can be seen at once, the file list scrollbar becomes active. Double-clicking a file in the file list displays more information about that file, including: its full pathname, owner (if any), and its file attributes (locked, type, creator, etc.). See the section on the FILE INFO command for more information
Underneath the file list are three buttons: Add Files, Clear All Files and Clear Selected Files. These allow you to add or remove files from the file list. Add Files starts you adding files to the list; Clear All Files removes all files from the list; Clear Selected removes just those you have highlighted. See the sections below for a complete description of these commands.
The File operations buttons are equivalent to the menu items of the same name. Each has its own information section below.
